Obituary

On November 13, 2007, Janet Harvey Trivette passed away at age 50 after a 3 and half-year battle against breast cancer. She is survived by her husband / sweetheart of almost 33 years, George A. Trivette, M.D.; her two wonderful sons, Proctor Harvey Trivette and George A. (Alex) Trivette, Jr.; Proctor’s fiancĂ©e, Christen Snead of Richmond, VA, who was like a daughter to her; nephew Daniel Proctor Harvey of Clinton, CT; and her mother, Irma Burns Harvey of Richmond, VA. She was predeceased by her younger brother, Blair Burns Harvey in 1965 at age 5, her older brother, W. Proctor Harvey, Jr. in 1984 at age 32, and recently by her father, W. Proctor Harvey, M.D. on September 26, 2007 at age 89.

Janet is the heart and soul of our family. She is the most loving wife, mother, aunt, and friend one could have. She has the ability to make all people she talks to feel they are special through her gift of listening and empathy. Many of our friend’s children are drawn to her caring and felt like she is like a second mother. Her enthusiasm and joy of life is contagious. She brings so much joy to us with many special family traditions, which we will always continue. We will always continue to celebrate of all her special days. She is an amazing wife, who truly gave birth to George’s heart for what he will always be eternally grateful for. She is a wonderful, caring, supportive, involved mother to Proctor and Alex.

We wish to give special thanks to Anne Nelson Morck who cared for Janet one day a week over the past several months. She helped keep our friends informed about what was happening and organized support while preserving our family privacy. We also would like to thank Dr. Nancy Armstrong, Janet’s physician and friend who used her day off each week to care for Janet. We give special thanks to our kids; Proctor, Alex, and Christen for their unbelievable support, love, and caring. We are very proud of them! We would also like to thank countless friends, who are so giving to our family. Words cannot describe how much we appreciate everyone’s support. Our hearts and souls are suffering, so these kindnesses are helping us greatly.

Our family has decided not to have a memorial service for Janet, since her life clearly speaks to her uniqueness and contributions. We have developed a website with the help of our family and Gary Goldsmith, whose help is greatly appreciated. This gives a summary through photos of her life. We will continue to update the site, to honor Janet. The site is http://spaceofjan.blogspot.com. In lieu of flowers or other support, please make donations to Randolph-Macon College, where Janet and George found each other to fund the Janet Harvey Trivette scholarship for a young lady who touches the world in a special way as Janet does.
